Moinhos do Dão, translated as 'Mills on the river Dão,' is a beautiful country estate situated on the banks of the Dão river in the middle of inland Portugal. Terraces built into the landscape for past grapevines, now provide land for cabins and campsites, while the Dão river flows under and around the Miller's Houses, sculpting the terrain. In the last decade the old Miller's house and barns have been restored with several rustic guest quarters built inside. The Moinhos has a small natural beach on the bank of the river Dao where one can easily enter the river for a swim or canoe trip. In July and August there is a little store on the quinta with daily fresh bread. During the week we organise special children activities.

The region where Moinhos do Dão is located is still defined by the rural Portuguese life, like it has been for ages. Our valley is tranquil and green and perfect for nature lovers. You will find a wide variety of flora and fauna here, like Mimosa trees, several types of ferns and regional animals such as the metallic-blue Fisher King and river turtles.

Moinhos do Dão offers it's customers studios and cabins for rent, beautiful campsites and a restaurant that uses regional and seasonal products and welcomes vegetarians. Our region is ideal for walking: you just pick up one of our hike maps and off you go. A knowledgeable guide is available from April tot September.
