Gerard, Sophie, Jelle and Iris: "To take some time off with the four of us, that seemed like a wonderful thing to do. After a few years of saving money the time had come: in the beginning of June we took off to Portugal for our super long summer holiday, looking for a nice place to just BE. We found that place at the Moinhos do Dão, surrounded by nature. The Fisher King birds flew over our tent. We went out on adventure trips, swam and played in the river, went on hikes, sat around the campfire and had delicious diners in the restaurant under the giant fig tree. We remained at the same campsite for 8 weeks! Can we do a better job advertising you!? We enjoyed our stay thoroughly and will surely return one day."

José: "It was wonderful to stay in the Little Mill House at the Moinhos do Dão! The week has been as I had hoped it would be and maybe even more than that. I have had a good time with other guests, especially during the delicious meals. And what a beautiful spot you have. We went swimming in the river in the early morning and the Fisher King birds flew ahead of us. We hear an owl and saw a little water snake. All together it was a wonderful week and I really feel I have been 'away from it all'."

Paul & Marjon: "We stayed three weeks at the Moinhos do Dão which proves that we were having a good time. We think it is a beautiful spot and the river is wonderful for swimming (although there was quite some algae the first days). The managers and volunteers were all very attentive and friendly."

Marja & Mark: "We had a great time in Portugal. The first week a little rain now and then but I finally understand why it is so green there. Even the rain had it's charm. The food was in one word: delicious and we ate in the restaurant every day which is a pure luxury of course. The Casa Boa Vista we thought was the most beautiful apartment of the entire estate! A complete surprise was the garden, I really had not expected that on the second floor. Even the new addition and renovation (while it shook me at first) does not damage the atmosphere. I think it's very impressive that you are able to can maintain the authenticity so well. If you, to be able to keep doing this, ever need support, for instance in the form of a 'Friends of...' foundation, I would love to step in. What I enjoy most is that, as a guest, I really feel I can share in this beautiful piece of nature of yours, which made me feel really welcome and as if the Moinhos do Dao also partially belonged to me for two weeks. I think it is worth a big compliment if you can make your guests feel this way. Well, that was it for now. We would love to visit the Moinhos again, keep up the good work!!!"

Nel, Egbert, Yvonne & Niko: "It was a very enjoyable stay at the Moinhos do Dao! We think the estate is fantastic with places to sit everywhere, in the sun, in the shade, wonderful. It was not too hot so we hiked a lot. The hikes are beautiful and the maps and directions were accurate most of the time. In the evening we drank a wine on the porch and after that we enjoyed the delicious food in the restaurant. The cooking is perfect and to have dinner together, seated at long tables, is a real pleasure. Nothing but praise for the Moinhos do Dao and who knows we might come back one day because we did not get the chance to swim in the Dao river..."

Henny: "We have had a good time in Portugal. Our hiking trip in the Sierra was super as was the stay at the Moinhos. We camped out on the Isle. Never have we camped on sand before. It is a little paradise indeed with a very hospitable reception where one automatically slows down. We saw the otters, heard the Golden Oriole bird every day, saw it a few times and also saw the Fisher King bird. We ate in the restaurant every day, under the big fig tree and really enjoyed that. It was nice to see al those different people: the guests, the volunteers and the managers."

A beautiful estate (really a little paradise during daytime and in the candlelit evenings) very nice people, good hospitality, delicious food, great hikes (super, to have all these hike routes in a book, we did all the short hikes with our 8 year old son). In other words: nothing but praise! If we ever decide go to Portugal again we will visit the Moinhos again for sure!"

All volunteers do their utter best to give everyone a great vacation experience and we thought that was very special, a unique spot. The children also were thoroughly entertained. The Millers House is spacious and comfortable. The only thing we missed was electricity. We understand that it is a matter of principle for you not to have that but, from our perspective, if you rent an apartment this should be part of it. We realise this is a personal opinion. In any case: we certainly look back at a great vacation!"

Marco, Sietske & Bram: "For us it has been a wonderful, relaxed vacation. The Moinhos remains a little paradise, no matter how often you have been there. Especially for kids it is a big and great adventurous place with water, stones, sand, sticks, animals and climbing and running around. "

Marcel & Ena: "We have really enjoyed our stay there. We did not have and idea of what to expect exactly. It is quite surprising to have a light in your room but no outlet but you get used that in no time and we quickly learned to appreciate that. The Boa Vista apartment was nice, spacious and with a separate bedroom. We also made good use of the garden on the backside of the apartment. We hiked and made some road trips in the region, even though it was a little warm for hiking. The food was of good quality. To make a long story short: we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves."

Jan: "Portugal was perfect, the image of 30 years ago, beautiful country, nice people, has again been confirmed! The stay at the Moinhos was good, a real paradise in a beautiful valley. Weather perfect because it was not too hot. The kids really enjoyed themselves. Millers House, a perfect romantic space.
